This is the result of running Clyde around for ten minutes in the backyard during a Texas summer.

The Old Fashioned is a classic bourbon cocktail. Many modern versions turn it into a fruit salad by muddling oranges and cherries, but the following is the simple recipe I prefer.
Ingredients:
Bourbon or rye whiskey
Angostura bitters
A sugar cube or simple syrup
Orange peel
A rocks glass
The traditional recipe calls for placing a sugar cube in a glass, adding three dashes of bitters and then muddling the sugar to start dissolving it. I use three dashes of bitters and a small squirt of simple syrup. Sugar doesn’t dissolve that well, so I stick with syrup. Go sparingly; you don’t want a sweet cocktail.
Next we need two ounces of bourbon or rye whiskey. Woodford Reserve is a sipping bourbon, but it also makes great cocktails.
Using a vegetable peeler, get a nice slice of orange peel. Trimming the edges is optional, but it looks nice if you’re making it for a guest.
Give the orange peel a good squeeze/bend lengthwise into the glass to get some of the oils into the cocktail. Swirl it around a bit and leave it in the glass as a garnish.
Add a few ice cubes and serve. This is a man’s cocktail – strong with just a hint of the orange and bitters for a nice flavor.
A few weeks back, I had the silly idea of making a lorem ipsum generator using types and cuts of meat instead of the standard Latin text. Some PHP code and a slightly modified WordPress theme later, Bacon Ipsum was born.
It went live on June 6th. A few friends tweeted it, it got retweeted a few times and went viral a couple days later. It even made it on Gizmodo.
It’s had 167k visitors since then and is still getting about 3-4k people a day.
Maybe I should make some t-shirts… :)
I’ve been dabbling in custom WordPress themes quite a bit lately and I’ve taking quite a liking to it. So much so that I’ve moved my old (albeit outdated) blog over to a WordPress site. This is the standard twentyten theme customized and colored to match my previous ASP.NET site.
I’ve been attending the Travis County Sheriff’s Citizens Academy and we had a class on building clearing a couple weeks ago. Part of the class was how to handcuff someone and the instructor needed a volunteer.
This was the first, and hopefully last, time that I’ve been handcuffed.
